Atlantic 10 Postseason Games: NIT & CBI RecapsRhode Island & Duquesne advance, Dayton & St. Bonaventure eliminated in postseason play
NIT First Round: College of Charleston 94, Dayton 84 Two factors helped the College of Charleston Cougars defeat the Dayton Flyers on Tuesday night. First of all, the NCAA Tournament defeated Dayton. Because of the “First Four” play-in games at University of Dayton Arena, the Flyers – despite their higher seed (third in this NIT subregional; Charleston was slotted sixth) – had to play on the road in Charleston, South Carolina. Secondly, when given a familiar shooting environment, Charleston star Andrew Goudelock took advantage. The stellar playmaker hit 11 of 24 shots from the field, including 8 of 15 3-pointers. Goudelock added a 9-of-10 outing at the foul line to total 39 points and carry his team to round two.
CBI First Round: Rhode Island 76, Miami 59
CBI First Round: Duquesne 87, Montana 76 The Duquesne Dukes defeated the Montana Grizzlies in the opening round of the College Basketball Invitational from Dahlberg Arena in Missoula, Montana on Wednesday night. The Dukes jumped out to a 14 points halftime lead and continued the pressure in the second half. The Grizzlies were able to cut the lead to as little as seven in the middle of the second stanza before the Dukes regained the momentum. Duquesne, from the Atlantic-10 conference, had five people score in double-figures with T.J. McConnell leading the way with 17 points. The Montana Grizzlies finished the season at 21-11. Duquesne will move on to the second round of the tournament, to face Oregon in Eugene on Monday.
CBI First Round: UCF 69, St. Bonaventure 54
